A new hobby · 1500 days ago by nachbaro
Last year I superinduced a new hobby into my life: Riding my bike on race tracks.
I have been to Anneau du Rhin and Salzburg Ring.
Here’s a picture from Anneau

and here is a picture from my broken rib after one or two accidents in Salzburg:

Not sure if you see the broken rib on the picture, but I can assure you, it was definitely broken.
I like my new hobby very much, but it is a little bit risky. Nevertheless, the 2nd season has just started and the next ride events are already scheduled.

The Cherry Orchard's Something Has Changed Followup · 1643 days ago by nachbaro
Something really has changed. I did not write for a whole year, because I could not keep up with the pace of events happening. I met a wonderful girl, I dated her for a short while, we engaged, we travelled, went out for dinner, we settled down, married and today our baby daughter was born. This is definitely worth an entry in the logbook.

Table Soccer · 2007 days ago by nachbaro
This evening I was in Kon-tiki bar in Niederdorf to play table soccer with one of my team mates. Actually there was the regular Tuesday evening tournament and – believe it or not – my team mate and me won the tournament and CHF 20,- prize money each. Great fun.

A book about farewell and recommencement by Anton Chekhov, which I read this morning after waking up earlier than usual. Something has changed.

Restaurant Buergli · 2008 days ago by nachbaro
Yesterday I was in Restaurant Buergli in Wollishofen. They have a small but fine assortment on their menu and if you order a bottle of Barbera they even ask Which one?. The food was very nice – I tried a Cafe de Paris, the speciality of the restaurant -, the wine too. The best was my company, who guided me to this lovely place.

Sporty, young and dynamic · 2009 days ago by nachbaro
Today I took my bicycle out of the garage and drove up to Zueri Berg. I passed the huge Hotel Dolder construction site and arrived at Dolder ice rink. The ice skating season obviously has already started and I think I should participate. After discovering my ice skating passion in Riga in February it’s time to get some skates now. This is on my to-do list for next week. It would also complement my summer inline skating activities.

Maybe I even find somebody who joins in, unfortunately it’s not a very common sports discipline (this might change now since Britney Spears went ice skating after filing for divorce last week).
It’s very important to be sporty, young and dynamic if one wants to stay competitive.

Painting · 2009 days ago by nachbaro
This summer I remembered my art activities from twenty years ago. I quickly went to a shop to buy brush, easel, colors and frames. The progress so far is not overwhelming, but at least I started with one painting.
The current state of the painting is here:

As you can see I have just finished the background and see no reason why I should not start with the foreground now.

Chess · 2009 days ago by nachbaro
Recently I joined my company’s chess club after attending a chess event in Zurich featuring Kasparov, Karpov, Polgar and Kortschnoi. Since then I played two serious 4 hour games, one against a club mate, the other as part of the company chess league. Both games ended draw, but I was quite happy with my performance. It looks like I still can concentrate for several evening hours after a normal business day in the office.
In addition I play Blitz on The Internet Chess Club, my handle is nachbaro, of course.

Wien Turin · 2069 days ago by nachbaro
After a rather long time of abstinence I am back, sorry for not keeping you up to date, many things happened and I am ready for a wrap-up.
So much for today:
Just returning from a very nice weekend in Vienna and following an encouragement of an old friend I went to restaurant Wien Turin tonight. As the name suggests the culinary subject is about Piemont and Austria (including South Tyrol). I had a very fine meal – wild pig entrecote -, excellent Austrian wine and enjoyed a cozy atmosphere accompanied by superb service personnel.
Check this restaurant out, it’s still an insiders’ tip and this phase in the life-cycle of a restaurant is always the most exciting one.
